Cover Story: Politics of the GOP

The worst thing that could happen to America would be the re-election of President Obama in November. The second worst thing would be if the old-guard Republicans were given complete control of the government’s purse strings once again.

Why? For the former it goes without saying that President Obama has governed from the far left and America may not even survive four more years of unrestrained socialism and the ripping apart of our Constitution. We have openly witnessed the President disregard our Constitution by the job-killing and business-contracting Obamacare, the refusal to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act, and his snubbing of Congress in many ways including the recess appointments to the NLRB and openly ignoring the War Powers Act in Libya. When the Republicans had both houses of Congress and the Presidency in the past decade, we saw big government programs like prescription Medicare services passed without a mechanism to pay for it. Government jobs increased dramatically as did our federal deficit. The party that promised limited government and budget control provided neither. Therefore, their majority positions were taken away in the House and Senate after the elections of 2006. The Republican establishment worked hard to gain power in the 1990s, but once in power, they neglected to do what they promised. Americans wanted limited government and instead the establishment gave us larger government.
