The New Underground Railroad – Pathway to Freedom

America abounds with a rich history of our forefathers paving the way for today’s citizens to reap the benefits of their labors. Obtaining liberty, often through wars and bloodshed was, in their minds, not simply for their time. They expected freedom to flourish and be passed on from one generation to the next. The sovereignty of the individual reigned in the land of the free and the home of the brave, even in the hearts of men and women bound by chains as slaves.

Today, America’s legacy of liberty and individual ism remains a beacon of light, offering freedom to those bound by twenty-first century slavery, namely, the shackles of cultural boundaries, groupthink, and political strongholds. As times past required extreme boldness on the part of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass to set forth examples of freedom to slaves by escaping the shackles of physical slavery — while leading and encouraging others to do likewise — such an example is necessary today to demonstrate the way to the freedom, liberty, and individualism for all Americans, regardless of our past taskmasters.
